Jason Sarfati is an associate in the firm’s Labor & Employment and Civil Litigation practice groups. He represents both employers and employees throughout Maryland, the D.C. metro area and Virginia. Most of Jason’s efforts at Joseph Greenwald & Laake are dedicated to assisting his clients navigate litigation concerning illegal employment practices, including workplace discrimination, harassment, incorrect wage and payment, retaliation and wrongful termination. Jason is also heavily involved with the firm’s False Claims Act practice, where he advocates on behalf of whistleblowers and the U.S. government in claims against organizations and government contractors that have submitted fraudulent reimbursement claims, including Medicare and Medicaid. Jason also handles a broad range of civil rights and general litigation matters in the Washington, D.C. area including police brutality, mistreatment of prisoners, business litigation, and class action litigation.
Jason takes great pride in leveraging the law to help people from all walks of life who are facing overwhelming situations, whether they are victims of discriminatory workplace practices or brave whistleblowers who choose to report their employers’ fraudulent schemes despite incredible pressure and retaliation. He works tirelessly to guide his clients through every phase of the litigation process, explore every option available to protect their best interests and ultimately help them obtain the compensation or other remedies they deserve to move on with their lives after the dispute is resolved.
Jason developed his tremendous work ethic while holding demanding full-time jobs on top of his evening law school studies, including working as a law clerk in the Office of General Counsel at Towers Watson, an American global professional services firm specializing in risk management and human resource consulting. While at Towers Watson, he focused on negotiating complex commercial transactions, risk management and handling data privacy and cyber security issues, with a strong emphasis on matters involving HIPAA, HITECH and EU Safe Harbor laws.
Before working at Towers Watson, Jason worked as a law clerk at the Employment Law Group P.C. (“TELG”), supporting TELG’s lawyers in a variety of employment actions, including workplace discrimination, wage and hour disputes, whistleblower retaliation, and qui tam cases involving violations of the False Claims Act, Dodd-Frank Act and Sarbanes-Oxley Act.
