My goal is to help my clients move away from conflict, navigate difficult choices during a stressful time, and live a better future.
I represent clients in uncontested and contested family matters. In uncontested matters, I negotiate settlements, draft agreements, and represent clients in uncontested court proceedings to finalize the settlement, whether through direct negotiations or mediation. In contested matters, I represent clients in custody, divorce, support, and property litigation, as well as post-judgment modification, enforcement, and contempt. In both contested and uncontested cases, I educate my clients about the process, the law, and their options, so my clients can choose the appropriate path and strategy for them. I also advise clients about, negotiate, and draft prenuptial/premarital agreements for clients getting married, as well as postnuptial/postmarital and reconciliation agreements for clients who experience marital difficulties and remain committed to their marriage. I frequently represent children in contested custody litigation as a court-appointed Child Privilege and Best Interests Attorney. I am a trained mediator and collaborative practitioner.
In addition to my law practice, it has been my privilege and pleasure to volunteer my time to improve the law. In particular, since 2012, I have served as the Legislative Committee Co-Chair of the Family and Juvenile Law Section and on its Section Council leadership. I monitor family law and domestic violence legislation, write position papers, and regularly testify at the Maryland General Assembly to improve family law for Maryland’s citizens, attorneys, and the courts. I educate attorneys about proposed legislation and new laws.
I also serve on the Executive Committee of the Montgomery Inn of the American Inns of Court, an organization dedicated to the improvement of skills, professionalism, and ethics of attorneys and judges.
For the Bar Association of Montgomery County, Maryland, I co-chaired the Family Law Section, was recognized as the 2008 Committee Chair of the Year for my efforts co-chairing the Technology Committee, and served on the Executive Committee. For several years, I served as Legislative Liaison for the Family Law Section’s efforts at the Maryland General Assembly. In 2008, I was inducted as a Bar Leader of the Montgomery County, Maryland, Bar Foundation.
I served as the President of the Montgomery County Chapter of the Women’s Bar Association during the 2009-2010 bar year. The Women’s Bar Association of Maryland honored me as a Member of the Year in 2009. I served on the WBA’s Legislative Committee for a number of years as well.
I have practiced family law since 2002. I graduated from the University of Baltimore School of Law (J.D., cum laude, 2001) and Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, Massachusetts (B.A., cum laude, 1995). I am admitted to practice in Maryland.
